There’s nothing like a girls’ night out for dinner, so while in St. Louis, The Muny Spamalot gals had to do it right!  We went to Salt, a St. Louis farm to table restaurant filled with a local menu of goodness.  Located in the Central West End, it’s inside an old stately home.  After a dinner of an incredible skirt steak and duck fat french fries, we decided to order every dessert on the menu!  My standouts (and group favorites) were their Gooey Butter Cake and Ice Cream Sandwich.  The Gooey Butter Cake had a cherry compote, orange zest, and amaretto syrup.  This was sophisticated gooey-ness!  It almost reminded me of a cherry and cheese danish or even cherry pie with cream!  The cake can be a bit rich, so it was nice to have other flavors compliment it.  The Ice Cream Sandwich was strawberry pound cake ice cream sandwiched between citrus shortbread cookies.  The cookies were soft and buttery while the ice cream was sweet, filled with cake chunks.  Summer is the time of ice cream sandwiches so I was nostalgically fulfilled.  These desserts were creative and a perfect way to end the evening.  Girls’ night success!
